Are Americans wasteful?

Yes, Americans are very wasteful, they barely care about waste, recycling, and all the effects that it could have on the world. The United States is the most wasteful country. For example at school, if you were to look into the trash cans after breakfast, lunch, and dinner, you would see a lot of food. Sometimes the food doesn’t taste too good or sometimes we don’t want to eat it all, so we just throw it away. Also if you were to look into much trash Americans throw out , it’s a high amount. In 2013, Americans generated about 254 million tons of trash and recycled and composed about 87 million tons of that material. ( https://archive.epa.gov/epawaste/nonhaz/municipal/web/html/ ) That’s a lot of trash and most certainly food that went to waste.
